Gwyneth Harris shared an inside look at PUSH Buffalo’s Sustainability Workforce Training Center—an innovative facility designed to empower community members with green job training while modeling sustainable design in action. Recognizing transportation as a barrier for many residents, the center was strategically located within a walkable neighborhood to ensure accessibility.

Architecturally, the building features a wood-framed structure with pre-engineered scissor trusses and a south-facing slope—purposefully extended to optimize solar energy generation. The project aims for net-zero energy use, achieved through a highly insulated, airtight building envelope, abundant natural daylighting, and efficient mechanical systems. These include ground-source heat pumps, energy recovery ventilation (ERV), and roof-mounted solar panels—demonstrating how sustainable design can directly support both climate action and community resilience.
